Statement of Learning Goal & Developing Digital Media
Learning Gap:
The conditions created by the current pandemic have made connecting with students more challenging for educators and instructors. Not all instruction can occur in real time or in a face-to-face (via video) setting. In addition the continued rise of online education platforms (EdX, Coursera, Skillshare, LinkedIn Learning, Degreed) have created new opportunities for online instruction.
As a result, pre-recorded instructional videos have become very popular. However for some instructors, creating videos (either of themselves or of instructional content) is outside their comfort zone. This course aims to build instructor’s confidence in utilizing pre-recorded video based instruction.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this first module, students will be able to:
- Identify and compare the most common aspect ratios
- Define thirds, title safe areas, and placement of sources
- Detail how onscreen locations in a video are commonly used and how to plan a video for success
Instructional Strategy
Our target learners are other instructors/educators who want to employ videos that they create themselves. As such the principles of andragogy would be employed in this course.
In response to the current environment the learner:
- Will bring their own prior experience with video creation as it applies to the subject matter they teach
- Has a readiness to learn a skill that will allow them to fulfill their current role
- Has an immediate need increase their comfort level with video creation
- Is motivated to improve their ability to create video based instruction
- In designing the course, the learner will gain the confidence create their own video with the resources available to them
